i had a fantastic job, one that i will never find again w/ no college education. $25.00/ hr. My ex got me fired yesterday. We had e-mail accounts for work related issues. A business message was sent to everyone. My ex was on my e-mail account, from home, because he had gotten into my personal stuff and had got ahold of my password. He selected the "reply to all" icon and wrote a message- something like: this place really sucks, they need to get there heads out of there a----. And then it was recieved all over the united states, to every employee, even corporate. They terminated me the minute i arrived. I told them that my ex- boyfriend had gotten into my Email and sent this ( i have recordings of him saying he hopes i like my job and my life because he's going to end them). They said I should have not let him get ahold of my password! i now have a message from him admitting to what he did. Do i have any way to fight for my job, or charges i can file against him?

You might have a civil action against the ex, but not against the company. Now, what you could try is go and apply for your job again. See if your old boss supports you are all, etc. It is worth a shot. I would also check into local laws for trespass, but again, civil. You might also get a restraining order against him and if he violates, go after him. What an A hole.

Most likely you were employed "at-will".

This means that they can fire you for any reason except prohibited discrimination, including that they don't like what you're wearing or that you sneeze too often.

They most certainly can fire you for allowing your work email to be compromised.

You have no recourse. Get another job.

Guess you learned a lesson about the value of changing your password frequently.

Probably not. The thing that got you fired was not the email, but that you didn't protect your password.

By not protecting your password is just like leaving the front door to the building unlocked and having people ransack the building.

Take the time to talk to someone who understands employment laws in your state.

It is amazing how many things in life there are when you could use a lawyer. There are affordable ones out there.

You could sue your ex for invasion of privacy and , if I remember correctly, defimation of character. He made you look bad in front of all of your company. I would definately fight it.
