If people say we cannot "police the world" how is it that the very same people justify the massive influx of illegal immigrans from Mexico and other countries. They justify it as saying it is our duty as a rich nation to help impoverished nations... I'm not a neo-con so nobody please use that word it's such a stupid word. I'm a libertarian who believes in ending the Iraq war and securing our borders. If someone says we can't police the world, at least be consistent?

That would be policing our own country, controlling our own borders. We wouldn't be imposing our law or justice on any other countries, just those individuals trying to avoid the legal means of immigrating into the US.

Can not, and may not are to different things.
We can police the world all our government wants, but may not, without causing more problems than it fixes.

The only people who are justifying the massive influx of illegals, are the landowners who rent to them, and the corporations who hire them. Other than that, no one is trying to justify them coming here, only critisizing kicking the ones out who have been here, and established a family and are not a problem to their communities.

Personally I don't feel its the US job to police the world or cater to people in the 3rd world . The US should be more concerned about the survival or the US not whether Iraq is a civil war or not or whether illegals can eat or even survive , most people feel like me and some Politicians as well but they can't say that .

I understand what you mean by others saying it is our duty as a rich nation. They want our 'meddling' to stop, but want the benefits by claiming we have obligations to the world.

If we go into isolation, and I hope that we will, the world will realize that the time that the US spent as the (non-isolated) super power in the latter 20th Century was a relatively peaceful time comparatively speaking in the world's history.

well... if they're here... they're in America and it has nothing to do with other countries?

but me personally, I think we should increase laws against businesses that hire illegals... that's the reason they are coming...

if businesses would simply follow the laws... no jobs... few illegals...

no need for expensive fences, huge security forces...

maybe hire a few extra people to keep an eye on the businesses... and pump up the fines...

I think the only thing we should do outside of the U.S. is stop genocides with support from the U.N. and other nations...

We can police our own country from letting illegals in and we can AIDE other countries but not take over their governments, control their security and make them into democracies.

I don't see the connection between "compassion" toward our less fortunate neighbors and "policing the world".

The US has been bullyish. Threatening, military action, and trade manipulation isn't exactly the best policy. And it's not going to get us international appeal.
