I am about 5 foot 5 inches. I started a few months ago and I am 13. I am getting the skills down really fast and I was wondering if you think I am too tall for gymnastics. I really want to compete and possibly go to college gymnastics. I am willing to work very hard and I love the sport. My coach said I would be about a level 5.

No, you are not to tall. If you love gymnastics and are doing as well as you say you are you should be fine. If you are just starting and your coach wants to put you at level 5 you should be very pleased, as not many people start out there. I am 5 foot 4 inches and while I dont compete anymore (I'm in college now) I can still do most things from level 6. I coach now, and I see girls much taller than you practice and do well everyday. Just keep up the good work and don't worry about how tall you are. By the way people used to tell me I was too tall all the time, so I know how you feel.

What does too tall mean? If you're beyond a certain height you'll be barred from the sport? You won't be a champion? You have a greater danger of breaking in half when performing routines? If you enjoy it do it. Let everyone else decide if you're too tall or not and then ignore their decisions.
Yeah body dimensions make a difference if you're cometing in the top echelons of the sport. It will limit how far you can go. But who knows if even you had the perfect body dimenstions if you would go that far anyway. Just do it until you don't enjoy it anymore. Even if you can't be the best you can still have a rewarding career in it as an instructor or something.

hello, well, i do gymnastics and i know girls at competitions that are like super tall, but they r really good. i am 16, and i am 4'11. it really depends on your skill. height doesn't matter as long as u can do the skills. but, gymnastics is not all flexibility u know. it's hard strenghth and dedication. r u a gymnast?, or do u want 2 start doing it? if u really want 2 do it, then go 4 it. don't let your height get in the way of persuing wat u want 2 do. GOOD LUCK! i hope i had helped!

If you can do all the things that you are required to do and have great form, height does not matter. Tall gymnasts look beautiful on bar routines. Good luck!!!!

You're taller than average, but don't let that throw you off.

Gymnasts are getting a little taller again lately, and Russian gymnast Svetlana Khorkina is 5-foot-4 and weighs 101.4 pounds.

I am 5 feet 7 inches, and I am a level 8! It is a little harder when you are taller, but it is definitely possible!

here's the way you test it:

1. stand up on the low bar facing the high bar
2. lean forward and try to grab the high bar.
3. if you can touch the high bar with your toes still on the low bar, it will be harder for you because of your height.

5'5" is tall, but if you are getting the skills, you can't be too tall. Good luck.

when i competed high school gymnastics we had a couple girls over 5'5! they did great, it just takes understanding your own body and the way it moves.
