Global warming is a serious issue which finally is getting the respect it deserves. My question is though, will it be enough? Will we as a civilization finally be able to make the hard decisions and do the right thing?

we can only do so much, then we are at the mercy of mother nature ... but there is no question we should do everything we can to slow the process, even if we can't stop those who continue to abuse our planet ... The argument is whether it is attributable to human activity. In the last analysis, why does that matter? It is probably not solely attributable to what we are doing, but can anyone doubt that we are contributiong to the problem?

Underlying the problem are the twin malignancies of pollution and overpopulation. The poor planet cannot deal with exploding billions -- billions -- of occupants with an insatiable thirst for raw materials, energy, water, and, of course and ultimately, economic advantage at any cost.

And the politicos argue about such inanities/insanities as gay marriage, stem cell research and abortion rights. Gay marriage should be encouraged and rewarded, stem cell research hurts no one and benefits people with awful diseases, and the question as to abortion is not whether it should be permitted, but whether it should be required. There are already too many people; children are starving and being slaughtered and horribly treated around the world; senseless, destructive wars are being fought over control of precious resources; human rights are in the garbage can; religious nut cases are strapping explosives to themselves and killing anyone that doesn't agree with their version of divine intent; our own government is spying on us.

It was long ago demonstrated that if you put a few rats in a cage, they get along fine. If you put a lot of rats in a cage, they begin to fight and bite.

Yours truly,
Just Another Rat

I doubt it very much, it will take another 20 to 30 years to get a significant amount of technology in place to make an impact but we'll have done so much more damage in the meantime that it's going to be twice the problem it is today, and therefore that much more difficult to deal with. The earths population is supposed to go up by another third to a half by then, and that tied together with the inherent environmental costs of that that whatever advances we make will be plowed under by a 3 billion or more increase in population. We wasted 30 years since global warming first started to become a topic, everybody said the scientists were nuts, ooooops!!

Heres a thought, we breath we breath out Co2 which causes "Global warming", so with that said, if everything on the face of the eath just stopped breathing, or carried a Self contained breathing apperatus with recycles the air. That would solve alot of problems, dont you think?

And by the way, beer makers dont use C02 to make beer, the C02 is a relsult that is created from the hops and yeast that are in the beer.

You also want to thank Mr. Al Gore for contributing to the global warming. He owns a couple of SUV's and also flys around in NON-Eco friendly airplanes. Makes you you wonder about that, the creator doesn't practice what he preaches.

Sin is a more serious issue!
Drugs, murders, child porn, porn, family break-ups, rebellious kids, high school shootings etc. etc. etc.
The planet will be destroyed at exactly the right time.
Yes, there will be famines, not enough water, wars and catastrophes.
A time such as the world has never known.
Please may I suggest you read MATTHEW: Chapter 24.
Al Gore should read this too!
Honestly there is a plan for this place, but very few humans want to know or follow it.
We all would rather think that we have all the answers.
May I say that the evidence is all around us, that we are not solving anything.
The climate actually is well down on the list of serious problems.

the international is going to adventure a severe climate substitute no remember what we force. The glaciers are growing to be in diverse places (Patagonia) and the earth is actual dealing with a cooling trend. upload the checklist Highs and Lows the the full globe during the final one hundred years and be conscious the Lows have become decrease and the Highs have become bigger. some scientists say that the celestial pull on the earth will finally turn the poles with extensive twister like low stress zones that suck chilly air from area and could reason yet another ice age, (and a few say that meteorites brought about the ice age because of the nuclear style clouds that the ash from the erupting volcanoes made), as for now, i'm going to purchase eco friendly because of the fact i'm greater frightened approximately my floor, river and lake water.

Nope. Not that all that green technology is not a good thing to do. It certainly is. Clean air is always nice. And it would be really good if people paid more attention to deforestation. But none of that is going to have any effect on climate change. The chain reaction is already in motion. From the melting ice caps to the thawing of the permafrost, there is not a thing we could do to slow it down. Everything from here on out is a natural process and probably always was. I still encourage you to reduce pollution and improve energy efficiency, but only on general principal. Don't bankrupt yourself thinking it will somehow save the planet. It won't.

Global warming has a huge inertia. Once this is started it will take decades (centuries?) to reduce and maybe stop.
It's very worrysome that with our sensitive scientific instruments we can actually see our climate change compared to 50 years ago, and so much ice is melting on the poles.
In recent years we are finally taking precautions. But is it too late? (sorry I mirror your question. I just don;t know)...

only time will tell whether it's global warming or another ice age...things aren't as predictable as we wish they were. Right now it looks like global warming. And this may not come to pass in our generation. You might want to consider that the smog that's being created is preventing the sun from heating up the earth faster, and if you do away with the smog then things would be worse; but the present thing we're trying to do is eliminate the smog. So sure if we try to clean up the atmosphere things will get hotter. So tell me, just what IS "the right thing" to do?

If the global warming is man made, then it should be an easy task to stop, but if the warming is due to natural causes then I would forget it. Personally I am of the opinion that the warming is due to natural causes. The global warming people are blaming CO2 increase but the ratio of free carbon to air is very low. About 38,000 to 1. I highly doubt it is the cause. The depletion of the ozone layer is more likely due to the energy output of the sun.

Luckily oil will only last for another 50-100 years so this monolopy would end and we will finally move to cleaner energy sources.
