A white kid was being made fum of at school by a group of Black kids. They were calling him cracker and honkey. He gets fed up and calls the main kid a racist ni' ' er back.

He gets suspeneded from school and nothing is done to the black kids.

Both are wrong here so why would the white kid be the only one punished when he said something in the defensive?

They both should be punished and both should have learned a lesson about racism but instead the white kid was punished.

What do you think?

It was a crock of sh**!! The "n" word is not as offensive as being called a honky or cracker? Every derogatory and demeaning word is offensive. Not sure if there are any legal grounds here, but I certainly would consult with an attorney. I certainly plan on bringing this up in class. It is worthy of a debate.

Both should have been punished.

But being called a cracker or a honky simply is not that offensive to most white people. The white kid should have just laughed it off and walked away.

On the other hand, the N word if extremely offensive and not just to black folks. Throwing that word out there was like shooting a missle at someone for shooting a squirt gun at you.

It's a classic example of a double standard. If I was the parent of the white child, I would be at the next school board meeting. If I was the parent of one of the black children, my child would have been punished.

My son has had this same problem at his school, but it was a classic example of sexism. The little girl was hitting him and calling him names. He told the teacher, who did nothing. When the girl continued, my son yelled at her. He was punished for his "combative behavior" but she was not disciplined in any way.

This type of behavior is reinforcing in our children that certain people are above the law.

No it's not fair at all. Both should be punished if this is what really happend. By the way the N word is a little more serious. Eventhough both were wrong.

I think there is a good chance that there is more to this story. I also think that the question was written with a very biased opinion. If this is what really happened i think that it is a very unfair situation and none of the kids have an opportunity to learn from the situation.

No. It is not fair. I think the one who started it should be the only one punished because if it weren't for HIM acting like a jackass then the other one would never have said anything. I do not think self defense should be punishable, no matter WHICH side it is coming from.

Yes, double standard...BUT everyone knows the N word is a no-no for white people, plain and simple.

However, blacks need to see that they are doing the same type of thing that they hate and taking the same attitude that they want us to get rid of.

Both should have been punished, but the instigators should have gotten a harsher punishment, since they started the exhcange of racial epithets.

no it's not fair, but that's political correctness run amuk. supposedly, blacks can't "take it" because they're a minority, but whites are supposed to be able to take it because they're a majority. it should be actually quite degrading to blacks, they just don't realize it.
