I am ashamed to say I believe it HAS been used and worse, our Commander in Chief has tried to JUSTIFY its use.

To the answerer above me, I care. I am a veteran and torturing people is not what I enlisted to defend.
We're supposed to be AMERICANS. When did the White House become the KGB and when did Republicans decide that was fine by them?

Of course Bush has been using torture, it's been a practice of ALL administrations from the beginning of this country's history. It was used by both the British and the colonials. The French used it in Canada and the Northwest Territories (along with scalping of the natives. The Indians did not scalp their enemies before the French started doing it).
In all Wars and Conflicts this country has been in, torture has been a tool of choice for information. The draw back to using such a tool is that it is unreliable, the information is corrupted. In Central America we used it to some extent successfully, 1 out of maybe 30 tortures gave useful Intel. Don't get me wrong, I believe torture is a disgusting and vile act and should be banned.
Most countries claim to have banned torture and some have, but as for the U.S. making the claim, it is false. The so called "secret CIA camps" are used for many things, and torture is just one of them, along with the US Army, US Navy, Marines, Air Force and the FBI. All have section devoted to such activities.

We were torturing people well before Bush came into office and we wil be doing it a long time after he is gone.

Ever heard the saying "Right now your country is doing things you thought only other countries did"?

We and every other country on the planet not only tortures people every year but we (meaning all countires) assasinate people.

The spies dont all look like tom cruise and they cant shoot someone at 100 yards while doing a 90mph wheelie, but a lot of bad things go on without our knowledge everyday and it isnt just the US that does it. It is every country.

Are you suggesting that we should question the honesty of President Bush? You know he can't handle the truth. This is one of the times when you "can't fool all of the people all of the time". He probably is lying, as usual!

Of course, just as the US used torture duing both world wars, Vietnam and Korea. Torture to get information is required training for all CIA, military intelligence and foreign service personnel. Anyone who hasn't realized that has a very thin grip on today's reality. The decision to use torture does not rest with Bush, or Clinton, or Roosevelt or Washington or any president. It rests with the military leaders, and we all know that they have no morals.

Pehaps. And Perhaps Bush being the puppet he is, probably doesn't even know about it.
