both have said the hanging to be just a BIRD but since when did a bird have HAIR and wear CLOTHES? Hmm...i'll take the death over a crane any day.

WHY would a bird be "stretching his wings" with flying hair in its face?

WHY would a "worker" be there DANGLING from a rope?

HOW can you not see the hair? It's pretty obvious.

AND why would they NOT try to explain it? If people thought there was a hanging they wouldn't buy it(older people in this matter, their era you know).

AND why does no one BELIEVE?

Its true. If you have a really old version on tape you can see him jump. But they edited it out and stopped selling the original version.

Sorry to tell you but it is a bird. If you watch an older version on VHS you will see a stage hand's arm attempting to get a goose of the set during the first Tin man scene. During the fade after this the bird flaps its wings. On older lower quality screen and TVs this was hard to make out and honestly did look like someone hanging. Now, with better quality TVs and even HD it is easy to make out the truth.

EDIT: Nobody believes it because it isn't true. Do you have an old VHS copy? I do. I also have a darn nice VCR and an HDTV. It is clearly a bird when you watch it on a good TV. Watch it on a sh** TV from Walmart and yeah it does look like a hanging because the picture is so blurry and grainy. Go to a second hand video store and pick up a tape copy and you will plainly see what we are talking about.

I think this must be the most ridiculous rumor I've ever heard connected to this classic film! Nonsense! It looks like a big bird, actually a crane though the quality of that YouTube video is very poor. Watch the way it moves! How do you get an actor hanging himself out of that?!

I thought the days of bizarre rumors over the film were long past. People can be very weird. Don't you think that this would have made the news? We know all of the other problems connected with filming, including Buddy Ebsen's near-death experience with early Tin Man makeup and Margaret Hamilton's makeup and costume being set on fire. So, you think that a death wouldn't be reported? Besides, how strong do you think prop trees are? They weren't real, so how could they hold someone~even a small person~hanging himself?

I simply think that this is one of the weirdest, most bizarre rumors I have ever encountered!

It has to be a bird because a body would move back and forth more. That image moved up and down also. IF there were a suicide on the set of The Wizard of Oz, it would have been a huge story that never went away. Also, there are two different stories about the so called suicide. One says unrequited love and one says disappointment at not getting a certain part in the movie.

The image is too far away to tell if it had hair, clothes etc.

The biggest thing is, IF someone had committed suicide on the set of such a large movie, they would have reshot that scene without him being in the background.

I would trust snopes.com

False, watch the extended version multiple CD set. It shows it and then explains it. The true terrible thing that happened was Buddy Ebson (Jed Clamppet) got sick from the silver paint they put on him as the tin man and had to be replaced.

instructor helper is genuine. in case you watch the scene rapidly earlier the "putting", you will see this massive chicken putting out on the backyard in front of a house. it fairly is the scene the place they %. apples from the speaking timber, then they arrive across the Tin guy, then dance off. As they dance off, seem in the heritage by the timber. as quickly as you recognize that it relatively is a huge chicken, the stream will seem extra like a chicken reducing its head and much less like a Munchkin leaping from a tree.
