Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness are important simply because without these things, or the hope of these things, then life has no purpose.
What would our lives be like if we did not have the Liberty of Pursuing happiness? We would be no more than captives or slaves. We have the right to determine the path of our own future, not to be told what our future will be. This is important, more than people know. Important for ourselves and our children. important because we say how our lives go, not live by someone elses mandates.

First of all, it does say, "Pursuit of happiness". That is NOT property.
If you have no life, you have nothing, so obviously that is important;
If you have not liberty, you have nothing, so obviously that is important;
If you must work for some one else's gain, if you are not allowed to "pursue" happiness, your life is miserable, so obviously that is important.
