sounds like you just need to use a GOOD free anti virus , not all of them are good and some are better then others , i have used avria for years now and never had a problem with it you should try it out first , just click on the one for your system (xp-98-) after you download it get the updates then run a full system scan.

try restarting from your installation CD ---- it should give you the option of restart without a system clean ---- when you have that you can then find out what is wrong ---- i would suggest checking out AVG they have an excellent free virus checker with free updates --- it works well ---- if all that fails make sure you have a current backup and use your installation disk to reformat and reinstall your HD ---- best wishes

If you just buy a new PC chances are you will end up with the same problem again since Windows is suceptable to viruses and malware.
Download and run Spybot, and AVG and see if they can clean up your machine a bit.

Get a better anti virus program and trojan remover and that should work. You need to have this even if you did buy a new hard drive or you'll get the same again.

Well here's the thing. Computers - no matter how expensive they are - last for approx. 4 years. If yours is under this amount, then yes try and wipe out everything and start fresh. Save all your files and what not then put them all back. If not, then your best bet is to get a new one.

Get a new hard drive, Load your OS and all importaint drivers onto it AND, AND a top quality Antivirus program.
Take old hard drive, put it into your system as a slave drive, and allow your "clean" system see if you can reclaim your old hard drive and use it for additional space.
Use caution and when it doubt, throw (files, etc) it out.

If you have the CD to install the operating system you could just do that. I would save you some money.

I think that you should buy a new because you'll probably fork as much money in it to get it fixed as to get a new computer .
