Old lady, I would have posted my answer but the thing is I didn't want people to say "yep that's correct" without even doing the question and then i would've been left with either the wrong answer or confused..

L= 24 m --------------(1)
L= 2W -3-------------(2)
From eqn (1) and (2)

2W- 3=24
2w= 27
W= 27/2
= 13.5m

The answer is 13.5 m because 24+3=27. 27/2=13.5 or 13 1/2.

Make equation from the text. Read the last part as twice the width (2w) minus 3 meters (-3). If the length L equals that, then you have your equation

L=2W-3

Now solve

24 = 2W-3
24+3 = 2W-3+3
27=2W
27/2 = 2W/2
13.5=W

W = 13.5 m

ok, so you know length L = 24

also, L = 2W - 3

replace L with 24...
24 = 2W - 3

add 3 to both sides to get 2W alone
24 + 3 = 2W - 3 + 3
27 = 2W

divide both sides by 2 to get W alone
27/2 = 2W/2
27/2 = W

I would have been happier if you had posted your answer and we could check it.. however, two times 24 is 48, 48 minus 3 is 45, so the width is 45m.

L= 2W - 3

24 = 2W - 3

27= 2W

W=13.5

Check: 13.5( 2) -3 = 24
27-3=24
24=24

Width is 13.5m
