I think in general to internalize things means that you don't deal with the problems or issues you face in an assertive and social manner. Instead you just suck it up and bottle the emotions inside you.

For example, if you and your significant other are fighting or having problems instead of taking the steps to rectify it or talk things out, you let the feelings brew inside of you and there they stay for as long as you do not deal with them.

In a nutshell, it's a matter of refusing to deal with the problems in your life socially and assertively. Instead your concerns stay inside your head where you are forced to dwell upon them and they don't go away.

Define Internalize

I have had problems being a guy of internalizing things.. I used to feel guilty of things, ppl telling you stuff and believed them as if it is real. I have decided that only parents will give you the right advice because they care for you more than anyone else in this world. Other opinions of people are only opinions nothing more than that. Also if you have a problem with someone speak up and let them know about it. Keeping it to yourself and dealing with it later will bring you back in the same boat. So speak up and hangout with people who appreciate you !!!!!

A lot of these answers are actually the complete antithesis of true internalization.
Not dealing with your problems is either an act of pure denial, or placing the blame on something other than yourself (externalizing).
To put it as simply as possible. Internalization involves removing one's ego and possessing a fair and unbiased sort of internal/moral compass that you use to make decisions with. These internal decisions will decide if you yourself or something or someone is fair or unjust, true or false, right or wrong, etc.

I think it means that you take negative comments to heart. Like if someone says to you that you are unfriendly, you take that as a "truth" (internalize it) and see yourself that way instead of deciding that hey, that is one person's opinion and it was probably based on some hidden agenda anyway, so what does it matter?

If you are asking, you can't swim. Find out how well you need to swim before you may risk your life out in a kayak. You would probably need to be able to get out of the kayak and stay afloat without panic for what you want to do. Just ask!

- adopt others' beliefs: to adopt the beliefs, values, and attitudes of others, either consciously or unconsciously
- keep a problem inside: to deal with an emotion or conflict by thinking about it rather than expressing it openly
