To solve these equations follow the simple rule that what ever you do to one side of the equation you have to do to the other-side to maintain its nature. So for this question the steps are as follows:

9x + 7 = 5x - 3
9x +7 - 7 = 5x - 3 -7 (subtract 7 from both sides to remove +7)
9x = 5x - 10 (result of subtracting 7)
9x - 5x = 5x -5x -10 (subtract 5x from both side to remove 5x)
4x = -10 (result of subtracting 5x)
4x/4 = -10/4 (divide by 4 to find value of x)
x = -2.5 (value of x)

Entering -2.5 into the original equation equals -15.5 for both sides.

Hope this helps, if you need further clarification please just let me know.

Good luck

9x+7=5x-3
-5x from both sides
4x+7=-3
subtract 7 from both sides
4x=-10
divide 4 from both sides
x=-2.5 then put -2.5 in for x

subtract 5x. so you get 4x + 7 = -3. then subtact 7. you get 4x= -10. then divide by 4 to solve for x. the answer is 10/4 which is simplified to 5/2

Subtract 5x from both sides:

9x -5x +7 = 5x -5x -3
4x +7 = -3

Now subtract 7 from both sides:

4x +7-7 = -3 -7
4x = -10

Now divide both sides by 4:

4/4x = -10/4
x = -2.5

now check th answer:
9(-2.5) +7 = 5(-2.5) -3
-22.5 +7 = -12.5 - 3
-15.5 = -15.5

The answer checks out...

x= -2.5

you have to get all x's on one side of the "=" sign.

to get rid of it on the right side, subtract 5x on both sides. you end up with
9x - 5x + 7 = 5x - 5x - 3
4x + 7 = -3

then you need to get 7 to the right side so that 4x is by itself. so you subtract 7 from both sides. you end up with
4x + 7 - 7= -3 -7
4x = -10

get x alone by dividing both sides by 4.
4x/4 = -10/4
x = -10/4

plug in x to the first equation to check your answer.

9x - 5x = - 3 - 7
4x = - 10
x = - 10 / 4
x = - 5 / 2
Check
LHS = -45/2 + 7 = -45/2 + 14/2 = - 31/2
RHS = - 25/2 - 6/2 = - 31/2

LHS = RHS
