I would say because being a celebrity doesn't make your skin naturally perfect. They sometimes wake up with bags under their eyes or a pimple or a break-out.
Plus, people expect them to look flawless---magazine-ready.
And what if there is a photographer around? News show like to talk about how fashionable or unfashionable a celebrity is dressed.
Non-celebrity women and make-up---some women have been wearing make-up since they were in middle school, even in elementary school. Sometimes, it is easier to cover up flaws than to fix them (if you can fix them).
And then there are some people who do it to feel good about themselves (has little to do with what others think).
Just think of it as part of the wardrobe a person wears. Make-up can be kind of like an accessory.

OK, here is my thinking:
all celebrities are actually ppl just like you n me (weather we ALL want to believe it or not). So since they are like us, we have our "flaws" and therefore they also have theirs.
But with there start staitis, and that fact that most ppl 4 some really dumb reason deside that celebrities look perfect...But they need to have photo chopped, and computer edited images in the magazines to actually look that good...Now if its on tv, they need all the **** to keep looking that way...i feel that it isnt fair...we hold celebrities to higher standard (and expect them to look PERFECT) ...but then when we want to look and be like them, it ends up being a disatster and ppl do dramtic, and dangerous things to themselves. SO in reality celebs cover up all there flaws to make us, the ppl who made them what they are, and all there fans, (and haters) happy. When it come to them not wearing all the stuff we are shocked that they do look awful since we are used to them looking perfect.
Most of the time i agree that the more makeup on anyone, the less "attractive" they become...BUT likie i said celebs are going by a different standard tehn the ppl you will ask off the streets...
The end of my long and drawn out opinon :-/

Paris Hilton looks like a cross between Big Bird and a giant llama. That's why she wears so much make up! She looks like a man in drag...

Because they mistakenly think, that if a "little" makeup is GOOD, then MORE- must be better. Of course, many people don't understand the "Law Of Diminishing Returns..." -& let's face it, Paris is YOUNG- & not the brightest Star in the Sky... :)

For ugly celebrities, it's to mask their true ugliness. For pretty celebrities, I suppose it's because they either got it in their heads that tons of makeup makes them pretty, or because they are too insecure about their own beauty.
I do agree with you about girls and makeup, less is more when it comes to looking great.

Because they don't look as good without make-up and as a celeb, they have to have the 'perfect' image.
