You can't keep an african sideneck turtle ( or any turtle for that matter ) in a 10 gallon tank. You should NEVER put gravel in a turtle tank. You should also never take a turtle out of the wild, which I'm assuming you did because you said you " found " it. Release it near where you found it, and do BUY a turtle. I highly doubt you have the money for a proper turtle setup. You need 10 gallons of water per inch of shell, and they can reach EIGHTEEN ( 18! ) inches long. That's ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY gallons of water. Not counting what has to be out of the water! Remember you need double filtration, UV and heat bulbs ( which need to be replaced every 6 months to a year ), and the energy you'd need for all of those electronics. Keep in mind that taking an animal out of the wild is illegal in MANY places, and you could be fined, and have the turtle taken.

They're only ~$12 at petco, which is not terribly expensive. You can always try to get them used at craigslist. My local thrift store also carries some fish tanks, although they are usually more pricey but come with extras (filters, air pumps, gravel, etc.)

My wal mart has them and they are even in the factory cardboard boxes so they have no dust in them for $8.97 each. I love them for baby guppy/platy nurseries as well as breeder tanks. Just the right size for what I do.
