it's particularly both nations. They both had conflicts before the cold war and once both sidesgot possesion of nuclear technology they thought of using it on each other. I do believe that the soviet union used more threats though.

both because each nation would create tensions with each other. Cold War started by the U.N. being created, in which the Russians made the Warsaw pact. As this was going on Europe was in ruins and under the Marshall Plan, they got aid of 12 million dollars for repairs while putting missles from Turkey and Greece pointing at the Russians. This also helped this two countries to stay democratic or non-communist. The next tension was the Berlin wall in which the allies try to send food while U.S.S.R. took them over. After that it was the Korean War and the Cuban Missile crisis. These two tensions brought both countries very close of using bombs vs each other. The Korean war or the first war where the dominos theory was used for using war in Asia. The dominos theory is if one country became communist the rest would follow so the U.S. made it #1 as a pirority. The Russians helped North Korea in becoming communist while the U.S. helped South Korea form as a country. From this our troops are still there to make sure communism doesn't fall on South Korea. The Cuban Missile Crisis is self explanatory in which the U.S. tried to get rid of Fidel but failed in getting the ex-fighters to kill him. To this the Cubans became communist and were big friends with the Russians. the Russians sent ships to our side of the world and nukes were almost launched but by negotions no nukes were fired. Vietnam is of the dominos theory which failed in that long war. Other than that there is negotions of nuclear agrrements, accords, treatyies signed by both countries to get rid of nuclear products. The 80's brought who can out last and the Russians were unable to keep up buying military power to match the U.S. To this the Russian economy crumbled and led to many countries becoming free and the end of the berlin wall. So both countries are responsible for the past 50 years but have grown well together. I hope that we can start to become friends again and start disarming nuclear weapons.

No struggle exists without the effort of both sides. Both the US and the Soviet Union wanted to dominate the world. The US won.

Both the US and the USSR share responsibility, though the arms race itself was inevitable: both counties were suspicious of each other, and when one invented a new "threat," the other had to counter it.

Both. They had to stand up and go right to the edge of brinkmanship to face each other down. Each one knew that the other was capable of destroying the other

The Soviets, because they challenged the U.S.A. And anyone who says otherwise is a commie.
