(-: Why do you wear a mohawk? To attract attention, of course! This is just part of it.
There's something fascinating about bristly hair. People want to know if it feels like steel wool, or if it's really soft. The constrast of textures just screams "Touch me! Touch me!"
(-: So if you are wearing the mohawk to tell people "BACK OFF!," well, it works some of the times, but backfires in certain random people.
If you really want people not to touch you, get a boring "business major" hair cut, and wear preppy clothes and glasses. And a dour expression. That should keep people far away from you.

Because it looks cool. It draws attention (specially if its neon green) and its pointy. Apperently these things make people want to touch it. Though you should tell them if it annoys you. On wacky hair day (at school) I spike my hair and people randomly come up to me and scream "OH MY GOSH THATS SO COOL CAN I TOUCH IT PLEASE!!!" And if I say no they keep bugging me untill i finally tell them to shut it or get them away from me. My point here is if you don't like it tell them. Tell them to "see with their eyes not with their hands" If they can't understand that then maybe they just need to get out of your face. Yeah I know it soudns rude but I hate it when people do that. Not just with hair, with anything. If they weren't screaming in my face maybe but otherwise its just ugh.

Because it's an unusual style and they think you want to stand out and like the attention.
