Ok. My Presario is just 2 and 1/2 years old and I have never had this problem before. I turned it on and went to a search bar to try and type and everytime I click in a box or go over a box, it automatically types in it the following "====================". This continues on and on in every text box or search bar or scroll bar that I open or try to type. Does anyone know what is going on. I thought maybe a key is stuck but I tested all the keys by pressing down on them and NOTHING seemed to be stuck. When I turn on the laptop I hear the noise of a key being stuck but I just dont see it. What can I do? Is it something I can fix??

I have had a similar problem in a laptop keyboard. It was caused by the heat of the processor underneath the keyboard on a warm day. I did three things to it. 1 put a desktop fan beside the computer, 2 hooked up an external keyboard, 3 found the little spring tabs at the top or bottom of the keyboard and lifted it out of the case, without unhooking the cable underneath so I could blow the fan on the metal plate underneath to cool it. In the end I had to dismantle the back of the laptop and put new contact grease on the processor and clean the fan, because it collects dust like a vacuum cleaner. lifting the laptop up off the table with a book so more air flows under it might help too. The keyboard is still broken, now I just use the external one, it's more comfortable anyway.

Ok if u checked the key and it isn't stuck so there is two plastic layer under the keys with carbon when the carbon touch each other then it's appear on da screen as to wat u pressed, so that carbon must have sticked but still the key is not stuck, my idea is take out the "=" key carfully and with sharp pin u can make a lil hole and lean the pin and just with little pulling u can unstick that carbon, u can try this even ur laptop on and check if it works if it does then keep key in a safe place for time being and place it back where it was:)

Have you spilled any liquids on your keyboard?

Sounds like the "=" button is stuck, even tho it may feel like it's ok, something must be wrong with that button.

If you haven't spilled anything on it, then try shutting down your computer. Get a can of "compressed air" (sold at most places that sell computers) and go over your whole keyboard with it, especially under and around the "=" key.

Then turn the keyboard upside down, gently tap on the bottom. Then as an added measure, take your house vac with a soft brush attachment and go over the whole key board.

Hopefully this will dislodge what ever is stuck under the key.

Had the same problem with a Gateway.

Typed random letters/symbols and random amounts of them.

I strongly suspect that the keyboard has worn out, which is unfortunate at only 2 1/2 years old.

That said, take it to a shop, for a little of 100.00 +/-, they should eb able to replace it and get you going again.
