Ok, right now i'm a student at UT San Antonio and it has been a dream of mine to attend USC. Here's the thing.. My first year in college didn't go so well..i dropped quite a few classes because i had to work so much to pay the bills. But right now I have straight A's in all my classes, plus i am a tutor here at school. I also do volunteer work every month at an orphanage for the united way. I plan to attend in fall 08, almost a year from now, if i get accepted of course. What can I do to increase my chances of getting in and any advice i could use?

I think you have a pretty good shot. USC is much easier to get in as a transfer student than their freshman. Just explain your situation your first year, and let your current grades do all the talking. Just continue to get really good grades, and make sure you're contacting the USC office regularly.. are you making sure that you are taking the right classes? My brother ended up taking a bunch of courses that didn't transfer over, so I would advise you talk to them about all your classes. It think you have a good shot! Fight on!

p.s: our school color is cardinal and gold, not maroon. Not to start an argument or anything. =)

In your cover letter address the fact that you didn't do well your first year and that your later grades are indicative of how you will do there.

Other than that -- pray that you look good in Maroon (very few do).
