I knew something was up last night at 10PM when I got a call from the automated system that GoDaddy uses to verify charges. Then today I had a call from Paypal's automated system asking me to verify new charges on my Paypal Mastercard debit card. I logged in and sure enough, a slew of charges that I hadn't made. They were small charges, obviously someone generating commissions for themselves. They're the kind of charges that police won't bother with because they're so small.

Now here's the kicker - I have never used the card. They just mailed it to me last week because my old one was expiring. I activated it and stuck it in a drawer. I haven't shopped, online or offline. That means the information was stolen from within Paypal. Has there been any suspicious activity on your Paypal debit card? If so, go to "my account" and "profile" and report it lost or stolen ASAP.

Computer is up to date and clean, with EZ Armor and whatever else RoadRunner has going. I don't believe the Paypal activation system required entering any numbers.

Sorry I don't have a paypal card, but surely Paypal themselves must give you some answers?

It's not necessarily an "inside job", as you surmise. If you activated it online, it's quite likely that your computer has spyware, adware, a trojan or some other kind of virus, or some sort of keylogger, that is sending information to a third party. Of course, if you're up to date and savvy with all your programs that scan your computer for those things, then it's not an issue. If you're not, however, I suggest you scan your computer for all the things that I mentioned.

If you're not sure of what programs to use then I suggest:
Ad-aware se personal for adware
Spybot Search & Destory for spyware
AVG or Avast for anti-virus

These are all free and available at download.com. I use them myself and the files from download.com are all clean.
