No, it is literal. But years ago...the old maid's where I worked said to me..."In my day...if you wore red you were considered a fast woman." Apparently the French women in a certain district of Paris wore that color and considered Ladies of the Night. That song...is literal tho. Red is beautiful.

I don't know if it actually had a hidden meaning but it was well-known at the time of the song's release that he was having an affair with his children's nanny. She was dubbed "The Lady In Bed".
