I am 16 years old, and recently got caught shop lifting a $78 perfume tester from Belk. I was wondering what kind of punishment I should expect in court, and if there's any way to avoid being put on probation.

Probably community service or something along those lines if this is your first offense. You could possibly go to juvenile hall for a while because shoplifting is a felony.

Were you actually arrested? If this is your first offense, you will probably get probation, which should be preferable to going to jail.

I believe that you may just get a big bill from the store also. There's some kind of law that allows stores to pursue civil actions against shoplifters.

Frankly, it doesn't sound like you're very remorseful. The judge may just decide you need lots and lots of community service to adjust your thinking. You will probably be wearing an orange vest an picking up trash along the roads.

I can't say what they will do, but that's a felony crime and you "can" be sentenced to 1 year in county jail for this crime.
