Due to proliferation of nuclear arms, it is more like "when" now rather than "if" in respect to happening of nuclear war. The question is who is going to press the button first ?

Avegirl, you are right on. However, first trigger always matters. In a movie, a soldier is asked by his fiancee that did he hesitated before firing and killing a guy in battle field whom he did not know nor will never come to know. The soldier accepted that he hesitated first time. The girl asked "after that". Soldier responded with stony eyes "after that it does not make any difference".

Like all wars, it will be the one that you least expect. I really doubt that we need worry about a terrorist group, this is beyond their means, to design and build a nuke with the ability to hit us.
The greatest possible way to avoid this is to help out and not hand out. Countries like s. Korea become dependent on other countries because of government aid(WELFARE).
And haven't you noticed that they show force in nukes until everyone gives something.
I am sure that the next poor country is right around the corner and ready to make their presence known.

I do not think a country will be the ones to do it. It wiill be a terrorist organization if any are to do it. I think many countries pursue nuclear weapons because of the negotiation power it brings to the table. Plus what leader really would want to bring the end to the world? I think the days of nuclear weapons are over because we realize how much damage it can bring.

No one is going to set off a nuke. Look up the phrase "mutually assured destruction." Nuclear bombs require highly educated people to maintain / use. A lowlevel terrorist is not a nuclear scientist by any means.

Well whoever it is is likely suicidal since there will probably be retaliation, which is why we haven't had nuclear exchanges to date. Terrorists, who often commit suicide during attacks are most likely and it's also hard to retaliate against them because they do not come from a specific country.

It better not be that itchy trigger fingered cowboy. The threat of mutual destruction makes use of nukes impractical.
