How about a 'mother's ring' that has the birthstone and name of you and your brothers & sisters? Here's a site that has some, they are pretty cheap actually..... http://www.limogesjewelry.com/personalized-jewelry/limoges-jewelry.asp?catid=339&CMP=KNC-yahoo-en

Get her a package of toy soldiers that come a hundred to a bag. Put them loose in a tight box to size wrap it up in a nice paper, with ribbons and everything. Do this immediately and give it to her with the warning she can't open it till the birthday.
If she's the type who shakes and weighs everything to find a clue as to what is in it she's going to go nuts. Even more so when she opens up her gift.
Who would expect that? I hope she has a sense of humour about these things. If you don't think she has ...then skip it.
Buy her a fountain pen. They are classics and everybody pretty well likes them. A caution though, ...don't ever use India Ink with fountain pens. The ink has shellac in it.

Sit down and write her a long love letter about how great a mom she is and how much your appreciate her sacrificing so you could go to college. Tie a bow around it and get a small bottle of her favorite perfume or bath oil. She will like that you spent the time to write the letter and present it so nice.

Does she have any hobbies ?? Crafts, etc. Does she collect certain things, like stamps for example. Does she enjoy reading novels?? How about a book from one of her favorite authors?? One year for my Mom's birthday, I purchased a book about North American Birds because she loves to see and watch birds. She enjoyed it more than I expected. I hope that this helped some.

Take her out to Lunch at HER favorite place & spend some Quality time with her. I'll bet you BOTH live busy lives, & it will ONLY get HARDER to spend REAL time together as you BOTH get older. She may well remember that Luncheon- LONG after she would any physical "gift" you might give her. I'm sure she did a LOT- to help get you WHERE you are today... -I'm sure she'll appreciate your little gift of "payback". :)

Hey, that's easy. I'm 52. I would like my daughter to just come home and say," hey, I don't have a lot of money right now, but my gift for you would be to clean your house." Of course I would gladly accept it and it would be the best gift ever for me! (Of course you haven't seen my house with the killer dust bunnies. lol)

have any pics of you two that she may not have? or any pics of anything that have meaning to you two? It seems like all my gifts seem to be framed pictures of things i take, but I love taking pics, so its just natural for me. My mom always appriciates them. and its generally cheap. $5 for a frame, a few bucks to print photos at a photo center or enlarge them. good luck!

Give her something straight from your heart or you can just think of what she likes.
