I have been getting a semi heavy period for about two weeks now. i went to my gyno and he said that i have a small cyst on my left ovary since i didn't ovulate last month, but it should be gone in about two weeks. i'm 18 years old and i just started my period about a year and a half ago.. my mom was a late starter, she also had a cyst at about my age. Is it normal to have a prolonged period after not ovulating? This is scary to me, i just need some peace of mind ! =D thanks!

Because you have only had your period for a short time it could have something to do with your body trying to adjust to the changes going on inside. The other thing is that it could be related to the cyst. I would recommend getting another opinion and preferably from someone that does not share the same office of the doctor that you currently use to see what they think.

Oh gosh... there are so many things that women have to go through. I know its hard but that is why women are better!

You went to your Dr. and he checked you out, you should be fine just do what he says and birth control does help by the way it keeps you regular. just keep your doctor informed though. Good luck and hope you feel better!
