did you just buy him?, maybe he is scared and needs some time alone, make sure there are hiding place in his habitat, and put a little bit of food he'll eat when he's hungry.

Grumpy? Nothing wrong with that.

Doesn't eat a lot? Not sure what to do there. Are you feeding it the right things? Are you keeping it correctly? How do you know it's not eating enough? How much do you think it SHOULD eat?

Make sure his habitat is correct. Poor temperatures and lighting are the most common problem with pet turtles.
