Here's the dilemma: My cable modem has only one ethernet cable input,so whenever I want to connect my Xbox 360 to the internet,I have to unplug the cable that connects my PC to the modem and plug in the ethernet cable that connects to the Xbox 360 into the input of the modem. What is the best way to have BOTH,the PC AND the Xbox connected to the internet at the same time without switching the cables all the time? I've heard about routers, but don't know enough about them to just buy one.Any recommendations anyone? Thank you very much.

You need a router, and they are easy to set up if you know how to do it.

If you never set one up before and don't know about what they do, how they work and what information you need to set them up , then they are NOT easy to set up

I would recommend a proper PC router, and not an XBox special.

A Radio router is only good if your PC and XBox have WIFI cards in them, or you want to pay for them to be fitted and set up

A standard non wireless router is easer to set up and uses the same type of cable you use now to connect modem to PC or XBox

The basic function of a router is to take all the requests for access to the internet from your PC and XBox and pass these on to the internet, then when the reply comes back from the internet the router has to send or 'route' the reply to the correct box, PC or XBox

The set up of the router will include programming it with the details of your internet connection. This will be instead of using the connection software you use now to connect to the internet.

You will need your account name and password and some other settings to do with your ISP's connection type. All this information is obtainable from your ISP. However in my experience most ISP's ether don't understand or cant be bothered with your questions, and are little help. They usually tell you to ask the maker of the router for the setting, and of cause the maker does not know what settings the ISP uses.

I hope this is of some help

Yeah dude, you need a wireless router. Its easy to set up and you can be gaming in no time. I definitely wouldn't buy the ones they sell for XBoxes, buy the normal ones for a PC, about $30 - $40. Check Wal-Mart
