I didn't! This TV show has been a favorite of mine forever, but I never really understood the title! I just began reading 1984 (only on the first chapter, no spoilers please) and when I put the sign "Big Brother Is Watching You" together with the fact that the houseguests are always being watched, my mind just clicked! Did anybody else know this? Is it, like, public knowledge that I just didn't know that most fans of this show DO know?

Hey, I'm a huge fan too and I did NOT even put that together myself! So don't feel too bad! But it does make perfect sense since I do know the slogan that "Big brother is watching you"....but did not realize that name was picked because they are always being watched...duh!

Thanks for pointing it out though since I think my mind must be a littel dense not to realize it all this time either...lol!

I know it's kind of centered/based around the George Orwell Novel ( I don't want to go on for the sake of spoiling anything),It was pretty good actually, and it's like the people of 1984 were being monitored and watched in,and it's funny how these people chose to go on Big Brother, but in the book,it didn't work like that. It's funny how things have evolved over the years.

Even though it's common knowledge, don't feel bad because there have been things considered common knowledge that I had no clue about either. For example, since I lived a very sheltered life, I had no idea about the Vietnam war thing until 1979 (I was 14) and a friend came over and brought another friend who had been a Vietnam refugee. By the way, I'm Canadian so it wasn't as common everyday knowledge for us while it was going on.

i thought most people knew that. i mean its kind of common knowledge that the term "big brother" comes from the fact that we are always being watched by eyes that we cant see(i.e. the government) i mean i guess i thought everyone knew that

Yes, I was aware of this, and so are all the houseguest's! That is why there are so many camera's in the house.

I thought most people knew what it was...but not everyone. I don't watch the show but I knew that was their meaning behind it.
