I've been on Amoxicillin (penicillin) for a few days to treat an infection in my wisdom tooth.I don't normally have any problems down below but since yesterday i've become very dry & sore, i'd describe it more as a burning/stinging rather than itchy.Im not sure if its thrush as theres no discharge or smell, just very uncomfortable. I can't get to my doctors until next week so should i assume its caused by the amoxicillin? but what can i use to ease my vaginal discomfort?

Yes of course. Diflucan tablet from the chemist along with Canestan cream VERY helpful. Natural live yogurt VERY helpful. Give it a go and don't suffer a minute more than you need to.

anytime I take amoxicillin I get a vaginal yeast overgrowth, and it starts with the symptoms you describe and then progresses. If you eat yogurt while taking the amoxicillin, you are less likely to get a yeast over growth, but it's too late for that now, so, go to the drug store and get some Monistat and start treatment, keep using it for as long as you are on the antibiotic, or seven days which ever is longer. For temporary relief which will last only a few hours you can use a mild vinegar and water douche.

Coming from a guy this might not seem right , but yes .A lot of anti biotics can encourage thrush , and it often has many different symptoms , bad breath ,sore troath, and in women a general discomfort down there.

Penicillin causes thrush, keep taking them, dry and sore sounds like start of thrush. Go to the chemist and get some Canasten cream, if problems continue see your doctor

Every time I get antibiotics I end up with an infection down there and now the doctor just gives me something for that at the same time he writes the scrip. You can get medication for that kind of thing at the store without a scrip. It is just a yeast infection. And there isnt always a discharge.

Sounds like a Yeast infection. Canesten is for that. Thrush, I believe happens in the mouth, with the simular infection, usually caused by Steriods, such as in a puffer for asthma. rinseing mouth out after use is recomended.

It's most likely a yeast infection caused by the antibiotics, you can go get an over the counter treatment like Monistat or Vagisil.

You're probably coming down with a yeast infection. I would call my Dr even if you can't see him until next week. He can make a suggestion or have you come in right away.
