The following quote comes from the novel "Paris to the Moon" by American writer Adam Gopnik. Do you agree or disagree? Why? "You don't need to believe in anything much to be an extremely effective president. All you need is to know your audience's insecurities and how to keep swaying in time to them forever."

Agree. It's the very nature of politics. You go with public opinion to get elected (ever notice how they dodge tricky questions that might have an unpopular answer?) - yes, we'll lower taxes and yes, we'll bring our troops home - and then once you're in office you don't do any of it. "I'm trying, but there's so much red tape." I don't think anyone has a hard and fast opinion about every single issue, so it's more the matter of knowing how your audience would react and playing the right cards to get you the support you need.

That pretty much covers it. I've often said that in school, college, and later, my job, that I have been successful, not because I'm good,but because I find out what the one in charge wants and then I deliver it. Simple as that...
