An excerpt from this site:
http://www.gotquestions.org/Adam-and-Eve-questions.html
"How many children did Adam and Eve have? The Bible does not give us a specific number. Adam and Eve had Cain (Genesis 4:1), Abel (Genesis 4:2), Seth (Genesis 4:25), and many other sons and daughters (Genesis 5:4). With likely hundreds of years of child-bearing capability, Adam and Eve likely had 50+ children in their lifetime."
The next generation was produced by reproducing amongst siblings. The bible specifically mentions three children and alludes to more.

Adam & Eve were married for 930 years. They had Seth when Adam was 800 years old. Let a married couple live together for only 30 years. Many in our own time have 10 or more in just 30 years. Don’t you think A&E would have had more than 2 or 3 children in 930 years -- especially when they had no birth control? It is extremely doubtful that Seth was the 3rd child. He was mentioned simply for the emphasis that he was born “in his [Adam's] own likeness, after his image” (Gen 5:3). Billions have lived on earth, but the Bible only mentions those that God deems significant to mention. Here’s the passage regarding A&E’s children.
After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had SONS AND DAUGHTERS. So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died. (Gen 5:4-5)

In Genesis 5:3, 4 it is plainly stated that, following the birth of Seth, Adam had other "sons AND daughters" (emphasis mine).

I'm not trying to be cocky and this isn't one of those answers that is not an answer, but this is precisely why this subject is NOT history. Genesis is mythical; it is not recorded as history and was never intended to be taken literally. The stories were passed down in order to convey deeper truths, not a bunch of trivial facts. It's possible to overlook the little technical glitches and have a respect for the deeper truths without being an atheist. But any way you slice it, this is a religious question and not a historical one.

You have to realize the bible's stories have been passed down from generation to generation. it is really all basic semantics. it was first form of communicating. people told stories, but with each generation until writing was established bits and pieces would go missing from these stories. eventually we end up with the things we know today. for all we know as christians God may have created more humas after adam and eve but no one will ever know the full story because again I will state our history in this world was literally told to one another. writing was not always around to record such event . don't take it so seriously that is what faith is for maybe you should question that .

Kane got it on with a lady gorrilla named suzie and Able settled down with a chimp named lil' lucy. Its all in the bible part deux. Either that or the bible is a load of cobblers - nothing more than an elaborate rule book for life. Be nice to your neighbour dont kill steal cheat etc....a positive message dressed up as a fairytale. Fantastic novel.

Other sources suggest separate groups of people who came along a bit later. This would provide a biological breeding population.

With great respect, Adam and Eve begat Seth, a third son. Cain went into the land of Nod, east of Eden. Seth's son was Enos. You can look it up.
