Well from just reading this, I'm sure you're from the UK, but nevertheless women are all the same. See with a woman, you have to let her know that its all about her. Why would you cook her YOUR favorite dish? You're not cooking it for her mate, you're cooking it for HER! What you should have done was just one day say "hey love, what's your favorite food?" then one day a while later, out of the blue you cook it for her. See something like this would be no big deal to a man, but to a female, its the world!!! Next time make it about her mate.

Welcome to the real world. You too sound as though you need to take the good with the bad. Do you practice what you just expressed here? No one is perfect, she does sound like she needs therapy, however you may also need therapy along with her. Together the two of you just might become a fierce combo in this world if you choose to team up together. Make your own little world a happy one. JUST DO IT! And you say you are the SAHD? So she goes out in the (Real World) Hmmm, try harder to understand one another. While a stay home parent has a tough job, she is surrounded by all sorts of influences you are not. Clearly both of you need better understanding of one another. This is just the cold hard facts.

Well, she probably fancied a dinner at the restaurant, to have her feet up, being pampered, and not thinking of the dishes to wash, and enjoying the idea of dressing up.
So, chips on your special day, even though it was a three course meal, plus a swiss roll for dessert is kind of poor to be honest with you.
You can still make it up to her by surprising her with dinner at the restaurant, not a fast food.
But, a place with a nice atmosphere, soft music, and even buy her a bunch of roses and a lovely birthday card that you didn't mention.
Self centered was because you cooked YOUR favourite meal.
Was that HERS?? I doubt it.
Try to think of what SHE would like.
What would make HER happy.
It was HER day after all.

Ha ha!!! You seem like a lovely caring man. Your good lady wife has no business being displeased with your efforts. Find someone else who will appreciate swiss roll.

there has to be more to the story you aren't sharing with us. She wouldn't be calling you self centered because you cooked for her. There was more to it. I'm sure you weren't slaving over the stove.

You shouldn't have gone to the pub. You should have spent that day with her and not on getting yourself wasted. Giving her the bit that was left over..Next time use your brains.

Some women are just like that, selfish to the core.
I think it was athoughtful gesture of yours, especially if the ale was going down well and you decided to to cook for you wife and forgo the pleasure of another pint.
Think she need replacing with someone more human tendencies

could i suggest something?
you mentioned that you took the day off (ok so far) to cook YOUR favourite meal on your wife's birthday?
perhaps next time cook HER favourite meal instead if SHE is the one having a birthday?
and getting yourself drunk first is hardly a compliment to her is it?
just a coupla pointers for next time (if she is able to forgive you that is)

It would have meant a lot more to her if you were sober. It was a nice gesture, but next time think about her before you get sh-- faced and come home and cook. There is nothing wrong with a man cooking. My husband and I get in the kitchen every weekend and come up with something different to cook.
