Use a stud that you would get at a piercers because it has a sharp tip. Sterilise it and clean your lobe. Make sure they are dry so you can get a grip. Just hold your lobe tight and push it through.
There is of course a chance of infection, but then there always is.
Don't bother with a needle and cotton wool because the hole will close immediately before you have a chance to put the stud in. Don't bother with ice as it is pointless.
It doesn't hurt much at all. I used to pierce my own ears and many other peoples and had no problems. Just make sure you have a firm grip and it will be done in a second.

This probably isn't the answer you're looking for but I'd wait until you had some money. I've had 3 piercings in each ear and when they started to grow over, I had to poke holes through and it hurt like .. well, I don't care to swear in a forum, but it hurt a lot. At least when you get it done with the gun it's just a bit of throbbing afterward that you have to put up with. I'm not sure if there's a drug store like Shopper Drug Mart where you live but that's where I got mine done and I don't remember it being that expensive. I don't blame you for not wanting to go to Wal-Mart, I wouldn't trust them either. It shouldn't cost you that much to get it done, depending where you go, drug store, jewellery store (ours here in town does ear piercing), places like Ardene or Claire's, or even a tattoo shop. Maybe check out pricing and compare, it may not be as expensive as you think. I think it'd be worth the money to get it done professionally. I think there's be less risk of complications such as infections and it doesn't hurt nearly as much. Granted either way you go you'll have to keep your piercings clean but if you get it done professionally, their equipment should be sterilized in order to lessen risk of infection or other possible complications..

i did mine myself......although it is better to get it done professionally...if you are determined to do it yourself start by marking the ear where you want to pierce it and then sterilise the needle and the earlobe....i used a sewing needle and alcohol to sterilise it...then put an ice cube to your ear to make it numb, hold a piece of apple or something soft at the back of the ear for the needle to stick into once it has pierced the earlobe and then pierce on the mark ;if you do it quickly it shouldn,t hurt too much....then use an tissue to press on the ear to stop any bleeding. Sterilise the earlobe again and the earing and put the earing in....and that,s it....make sure to turn the earing every day to stop it sticking

It's really not a good idea to pierce your own ear. The safe way is to get it done professionally, it's free you only have to pay for the earings at most places.

I did mine myself, twice in each ear. If you sensible there is no problems.

I used a needle - boiled it to remove germs and swapped it in TCP. Then cleaned the ear lobe with TCP, a short drink of vodka and pushed the needle though. Before removing the needle fully I aligned the stud earring and as I pulled the needle I pushed the stud to go through the hole.

Cleaned the ears daily for a week and all good, no problems what-so-ever. Been over two years now, might add another hold to the left now you've brought this up! doh!

Either go to Wal Mart and get the piercing kit, OR if you have a piercing stud (very sharp earring) just stick it through your ear. Don't use ice cubes, it makes it hurt worse & DONT use a needle, there too small for the earring to fit through. Clean it with a Q-tip and Alcohol and wiggle it around so that it will get all the infection out and Dont touch it with dirty hands. Only use peroxide on it once.

Do NOT pierce your own ear. You will always regret it. Go to a professional or wait until you can go to a professional. With a professional it is quick and easy and your ears will look alot prettier! And it is safer....you do not want an infection on your earlobe!

Don't be ridiculous - it costs next to nothing to have it done and is safe and reliable when done professionally. If you need to ask, you shouldn't even be contemplating doing it yourself. Anyone not convinced by this should try looking up keloid scars (wikipedia has some lovely photos) online.

That’s a really bad idea. Home piercing often leads to infection.
