Like most things it is great in moderation.

The problem is when people take a patriot to extreme levels. In fact terrorist are the extreme form of patriot of their causes.

Yes and no. It's only good if you're patriotic for the right country. Imagine being 100% patriotic during Nazi Germany times. Would that be a good thing? It wasn't....

Patriotism is a good thing because it binds people together in our society.

However, BLIND patriotism is a bad thing, as is following any person or ideology mindlessly and heedless of the consequences.

But loving my country does not mean that I need to approve of every single thing that our government does. I can disapprove of a decision made by Congress or the President and still love my country as a whole.

Uhhh.....Yes!!! Patriotism is what fuels our world. We are in constant competition with other countries to invent the first whatever so that we can be proud of our accomplishments. Is it better to support our manufacturers than those overseas? Ohhhh, you may mean patriotism as a war machine right? Without patriots in any country, that country would be overrun and would no longer be a country. The countries around the world have enough "patriots" that believe in their countries way of life enough to fight to protect it.

Yes, Nationalism is the only way to go. You should follow the leaders of the nation. No one should be allowed to voice an opinion against those leaders.
