They can tell you but you don't have to take it down. The Flag represents the land of the country for which it stands and if the flag is located within the country it represents a marker of patriotism that must be respected and only by request of the person in charge of the country you can be ordered to take it down and no one else. If is a flag from a different country it must always be accompanied by the flag of the country where it is located, or automatically becomes a punishable offense in any country. I hope that helps for reference google for country laws and rules for citizens.

Check your lease. It may have a clause stating to the effect that you can't hang things from your railing. If your lease doesn't have a clause saying that, look again under things like rules of conduct, tenants agreements. Be absolutely aware of what your lease says in full and how things can be interpretted. If there isn't, happy Canadian flag day....

Some apartments have strict rules about not putting ANYTHING on the railing of the patio. It keeps folks from using the rail to hand laundry, etc. and making the building look cluttered and unappealing. Check your lease.

Ask him why. If it fairly is violating community bylaws with the situation of it, it may merely be so elementary as shifting it to a sparkling area. yet fairly, i can't see in any different case what the subject may well be. attempt to speak to him extremely. in case you are able to't get a right now or life like answer from him, touch your community municipal bylaw branch to work out if there is any reason so which you would be able to not fly your flag there. i don't understand in the adventure that your landlord can legally ask you to get rid of it. this is his property nonetheless, yet via paying hire, it is your place. Asking you to get rid of it merely looks incorrect to me. and that i'm additionally a landlord in Ontario, Canada.

I'm guessing that they're not doing it because it's a Canadian Flag, but rather because it's an eyesore. If it were an American flag or something else they'd tell you to take it down also.

Not if he allows a US flag from that same railing.

He might own the property, but if he is to rent it to others as a primary residence, he has responsibilities, including those those that respect the current residents.

Either no flag whatsoever, or you can display your Canadian flag

Let him try to take you to court on that one!

Only if there is something in your lease that applies, it obscures someone elses view, or it presents some sort of safety hazard.

But, in practical terms, he can force you to do almsot anything as long as he's willing to take the time and come up with a good excuse.
