Everywhere you turn traditional Christian values are under attack. Why is it that these values are attacked for not being "tolerant" when, by the very nature of the attack is itself intolerant?
Its a double standard these days. Its like when Darth Vader said "Join us or die".
That seems to be the attitude among liberal theologians, politicans, media spin doctors & talking heads, college professors, the ACLU, race activist, and a host of others!
If you agree with them then youre doing your part as a contributing citizen but if you try to hold yourself to a higher standard that rejects the very sin nature that liberalism promotes then youre just a bigot and a hypocrite. They go STRAIGHT to the name calling the second you disagree. They say they are the ones who are being tolerant when in fact they are the ones being the bigots and hypocrites. Actions speak louder than words dont you think?

OK just to clarify a few things....
First being liberal is not necessarily political.
Second being Christain doesnt mean youre Republican.
Please keep this in mind if you answer.
This is a philosophical idealism question, not a politcal one.
Sorry if its in the wrong category but it kind of fits

Christian values are not under attack. Christian values can be found anywhere in today's society from tv shows like 7th Heaven to movies like "Bruce Almighty," "The Truman Show," and even "The Matrix" trilogy. There are many religious Liberals, myself included. What I have a problem with is Christian hypocrisy. If you say you're a Christian, then ACT like one. Actions DO speak louder than words, so don't just ask yourself "What would Jesus do," DO what Jesus would have DONE!
Liberalism doesn't promote sin or intolerance, those are just your biased opinions of something which you know very little. If Christians want to be respected, then they need to respect other religions and their followers and the same goes for those other religions. Give respect to receive respect. It's that simple.

Not all liberals are Godless and some conservatives are. I have a conservative friend who is an atheist and I highly doubt all the closet homosexuals in the Republican party are all that Christian either. I don't believe either party really lives up to Christian values, but I believe liberals have more Christian values than conservatives do. Liberals want to help the poor, resolve conflicts in a peaceful manner, and believe everyone should be treated equally. There's nothing more Christian than that. Conservatives, on the other hand, believe people should help themselves, believe it is right to kill--although the Bible says it's not--when necessary, and the prefer rich white people over all else. You're traditional Christian values aren't under attack by liberals, they're under attack by you and all the conservatives you love and trust. I'm not being intolorant. As I have said before, I have conservative friends and I myself have conservative beliefs, but you're criticism of liberalism is completely ridiculous. My only hope is that Heaven and Hell does exist so you can see what the value of life really is.

ummm... since when did Christians think they have a right to this country.. I don't remember reading that in the Constitution. And pardon me, but how can Christianity be under attack when it is the religion of the vast majority of the country? Its the fundamentalist outlook and extremism that is under attack and rightfully so. The agenda to proselytize the country in the name of Jesus is unAmerican and disrespectful.
Practice your religion, by all means. Give glory where it is due. But keep it out of the political arena. They do not attack the religion, they attack the people who think that everyone who does not conform to their religion is an evil person.

Laws should not be made based on biblical thinking. Stripping people of rights is unAmerican. And before you say that the judicial system is based on the ten commandments, youre wrong. The idea of murder, theft etc. being wrong is older than Judeo-Christian history. So, when will religious conservatives stop trying to compel their religion and thier views on the country and the public, instead of keeping their religion a private matter the way its supposed to be is the question.

Why are Christians always such victims? I think Ruth may be catching on slowly.

Since you caught on to the 'liberalism' is necessarily political and that Christian doesn't equate to republican, why can you figure out that liberalism doesn't equal godless? That's call athiesm. They are not the same thing. Atheists make up 11% of the population and are growing. Why? People like you and the fact the there is no god.

I'm tolerant and have no issue if people have different beliefs than others.

the issue is when people try to get their beliefs legislated.

so many people with so called 'traditional values' aren't tolerant of others and try to pass laws against them. they even sling around words such as 'godless' even though many people simply view god in a different light or worship a different god(s) than they do.

believe what you want- just don't make any laws that do anything beside protect people (and their property) from other people.

1luv- in 1959 the church said Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute and made her a saint.
know the religion you practice!

I would rather die serving my lord than to live without him.

I know alot of people criticize the catholic church about abortions, condoms, etc. That we should be more understanding to the changing time. The truth is times didn't change, there has always been prostitutes (Mary Magdalene), murders (Cane killed his own brother), and egotistical leaders wanting to abolish something because they feel threatened by it (Jesus's Crucifixion). The only thing that has changed is technology. These bad doers now have more access us. But we keep telling our children it's OK to have sex, it's OK to kill, just plead insane.

Well guess what? It's not OK.

Well, I don't think you're right that, but the more educated people are, the more the tend to lean to the left and stop worshiping gods based on ancient literature.

I am tolerant of people’s views, but I am intolerant of people who say things about the world and me without knowing anything. So many people from the right will make outrageous claims about the world without any knowledge. There is a huge difference between respecting someone’s beliefs in God and respecting their wishes to have all gays locked up, ignore medical research based on ONLY THEIR VIEWS. I think the Christians of this country are generally arrogant. If you don't like something, don't do it or involve yourself. But Christians don't follow that logic; they try to push the govt. to pass laws based on their religious. I'm sorry, but God is not proven, there is zero evidence. It's based on hope. Hope is a good thing, but not something to live your life by because the rest of us are dealing with reality and people like you are getting your cues on integrity from the clouds. I say you grow up, stop blaming others and deal with reality for a change. If you want to live in a country controlled and ruled by religion then I suggest you relocate to the Middle East.

Liberals are educated. Liberals care about the truth.

Cons could care less about the truth. Cons only care about their emotional belief and refuse to allow reason or rational thought to sway their opinion. Libs on the other hand are open to facts, but thus far, you and all of your God groupies have yet to provide any proof for your values with the exception of 2000 work of fiction - the bible.

Stop judging the world by only what you see on tv. Get out a meet some people are liberals. You'll notice they the least hateful, least violent people around. They will listen and then provide you with reasons why they disagree. Where as the Cons will get angry, violent and ALWAYS resort to childish name calling. I can go toe-to-toe with any Con because I know what I'm talking about and my views are consistent. Generally speaking, the Conservative/Republican views contradict one another, which hurts your credibility as to why you actually believe what you believe.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get an education. For example, listen to what the other side is saying. Read what they believe. Don't rely on your people to provide information on the Liberal agenda because they're wrong.

For one thing you can't legislate morality. An don't forget, the KKK call themselves Godly Christians who are just doing God's work by trying to rid the world of everyone who is not a so called white person and think the way they think. There are too many in America who use Christianity to cloak their ugly evil motives..

I can't put a time frame on it, but I think it happened slowly, when folks decided they didn't want to work too hard at holding high standards (to do so means patience and sacrifice), so their solution became to bring others down to try and elevate themselves. Happens all the time in pop culture.
