Yes. Americans choose cheap price over quality of goods. That's why, although we love to hate them. Wal-Mart is so successful.

If Americans weren't so cheap and would pay more for a better product made in the USA we could drive up the demand which would mean supply would have to go up in turn creating more jobs for Americans. Until the American citizens wake up and realize how worthless everything is at Wal Mart we are doomed to have no choice but to buy products out of China, Malaysia and Taiwan. I have already thrown out much of what I own that was made in China and replaced it with products made locally or at least in the USA. I suggest everyone else do the same.

The company importing and representing the product is responsible for the product so yes.
this is not a matter of what the companies are paying for the merchandise it is a failure on their part to monitor the manufacturing practices as well as the product quality of the product they represent.
More money is not going to effect manufacturing processes. Manufacturing process will only be effected by rigorous testing and taking your business elsewhere when they manufacturer is unable to live up to a certain standard.

More money wouldn't change this dynamic.
The CEO's of those manufacturing companies would just give themselves a raise!
The problem is that countries like China have no workers rights groups or environmental standards and U.S. companies make more profit using these companies!
It took DECADES for the people of the U.S. to get U.S. companies to comply with safety and environmental and workers rights regulations!!
$$$$$ IS the root of all the wolrd's ills!

It is if you consider that were the manufacturing still performed here that product safety testing would enforce higher quality.
It is not if you consider that China doesn't have to make such poor quality, potentially dangerous products. However, they CHOOSE to do so because they know that every product recall hurts an American corporation. It's their little way of taking pot-shots at our economy.

I still can't believe that we are allowed to eat food manufactured in another country, its disgusting. I didn't even realize it was so prevalent I only looked when I would see cheap goods at like a dollar store or somewhere but now I always check.

Partially, but the inscrutable Chinese can outsmart most of our inspectors. They show you one good product and ship millions of the real, inferior ones. Don't buy anything made in China. They even make food out of recycled plastics. Pray tell what they use to make your vitamins or Rx drugs.

The Chinese are experiencing the greed that has always plagued manufacturers and merchants.
The US is not to blame for things other people do.

In a sense...the unions have ruined American manufacturing (they blame everybody else, but that's the gist of it) and forced manufacturing out of the country and we are paying for it.
