If you've got the correct drivers installed and it makes no difference if you change the settings in control panel, then your monitor is shagged. If you have had heavy magnets such as those in speakers near to it, you could try de-gaussing it but it's unlikely to work. Get a new one.

If you have a CRT (tube type) monitor, you may have what is know in the trade as a purity problem.
This is where a permanent magnetic field has interfered with the tube.

This can be easly fixed by degaussing the tube.

Most monitors have a circuit that applies a current to the deguass coil around the tube when you first swtich on. This is usually controlled by a thermistor.

Switch the monitor off (at the mains), leave it off for 30 mins or so and then switch it back on.

Repeat this until the fault clears.

Some monitors have a deguass button on the rear, try this if you have one (while the monitor is switched on).

depends on the type of monitor , if its LCD maybe dead pixels.. and the other colours not showing right..

http://www.techspot.com/downloads/1737-dead-pixel-tester.html

use that to test it

i noticed it on a few cheapo lcd monitors.. sometimes paying that bit more is better in the long run.. I use LG Flatron monitors normally, have never had problems with them for years.

Either the speakers have permentantly damaged the screen or it is screen burn if you leave your monitor on too long, maybe u have your icons on the left side

Hmm, could be screen burn. Do you have all your icons down the left side of the desktop, and a long delay on your screensaver?
