Most Republicans subscribe to Ronald Reagan's motto: "All for one......ME!"
Conservatives seem to have a penchant for "looking out for #1". They seem to be self-centered, egoistic, selfish, arrogant, greedy and sothful, preferring to make their money off the sweat of others' brows. I find most of the true conservatives I know seem to be filled with hubris, insecurities and incredible haughtiness.
Liberals seem to have a desire to look out for others. They seem to be more compassionate, giving, 'blue-collar', and down-to-earth. Most of the liberals I know seem to be filled with self-doubt, humility and an incredible need to 'be there' for those who are underprivileged, disadvantaged, sick, elderly, poor, hungry or homeless.
However, when you look up Webster's definitions of "conservatism" and "liberalism" you discover that there seems to be a little bit of BOTH in most of us.
I find it incredulous that most people attach artificial labels to themselves without even know the true definitions of those labels. They appear to be 'conservative' just because Rush Limbaugh tells them to be; or they seem to be "liberal" just because Al Franken tells them to be.
As Adolph Hitler once said: "How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think."
Perhaps is so-called 'conservatives' and 'liberals' worked together toward unity, there wouldn't be the hatred, bias, bigotry and prejudice that the likes of Limbaugh and Franken have instilled which only serves to further divide a nation so desperately in need of unification. -RKO- 10/05/07
