I have taken pictures of dozens of artist (Morrissey, Paul McCartney) over the years and wanted to publish a picture book but I am unsure if i can do this or if their is some legal issue involed.

No, you would need releases. You need a literary attorney. There is a specific form you will need signed. I have a copy of John Wiley and Son's version of the forms. It is a definite legal issue. Images are not public property even though you take the photos. If you would like to see a copy of the release form, e mail me and address and I will try to scan it for you. I keep it in my files. You would also need files for all the people you interviewed for the book. I have that form, too. Pax- C

You're probably correct about the legal issue. Ask an Intellectual Property Attorney in your city.

I'm not doubting the other answers, but I wonder if what you're doing might be considered journalism.
The rules might be different.
