I've been driving for four decades and have received only one ticket. I had been home taking care of my mom, who had a broken ankle and would be alone. I tried to get to my class in time for a test.
One car was driving way under the speed limit, so I signaled to pass. When I was nearly all the way past, the other car sped up, so I had to either drop way back or speed up just a little bit (about 73 mph) to get back in line. I was ticketed for speeding, even when I explained what had happened. Back then, people were discouraged from using the passing lane at all for whatever reason, so I thought I would be in trouble, but I got in trouble for trying to do the right thing!
Since this was my first ticket ever, people asked me where I received it since they said that I should have received only a warning. When I told where it happened, every person would tell me about a friend who had been ticketed, sometimes for as little as 1 mph over! Back then, we didn't question radar, not knowing how messed up readings can be.
So, I would have been OK if I had stayed in the passing lane.

I've had maybe 3 or 4 traffic tickets years ago. In recent years I've had a couple of written warnings. I tend to have a lead foot and am very thankful for cruise control - that really helps!!

Four, total, in over 30 years of driving...I got a warning on my 22nd birthday for going well over 100 mph on a 2-lane blacktop. Bravest cop I ever saw: he stepped IN FRONT of the car to flag me down!
Cruise control is a wonderful tool!
