I am poor and it stinks. I'm poor--but not poor enough.

i am in the same category as you it sucks doesn't it i am a single mother and i work my a$$ off 40 hours a week to support my family all i asked was for assistance with my daughters day care( which is $125 a week by the way ) I'm not asking for anything else i am not even asking them to pay all of it i am just asking for vouchers where i will have to pay a copay any how i was turned down mind you all i make is $9 an hour and my rent alone is $ 550 for a little one bed room apt Cleveland not to mention food and groceries etc. it really sucks i actually just had to pull my daughter out of day care because i just cant afford it now i don't have anywhere for her to go wile i am at work and i had to put my two week notice in at work so now i will have no job it just kills me how people like myself can try so hard and get turned down and yet there are people out here that do nothing but lay around and procreate and they get food stamps and cash assistance and everything the system really needs to be reevaluated

Here's my lovely story:

I am a 19 year old newly married female. I have obviously been taken off of my parents insurance, and my husband is working full time and going to school full time trying to provide for us. Yeah, that doesn't sound bad... it gets better...

I am disabled from chronic migraine headaches. I constantly have a migraine headache... that of which I have not found a medication that will help. Between my neurologist, chiropractors, MRI's, physical therapist, hyperbaric treatment.... i could go on and on... my bills are rather extensive as you can imagine.

I have applied for Medicaid and disability... both of which i was denied... Medicaid because i didn't have a child. And disability--who knows why (I'm bed ridden). I am in the process of appealing my disability case which depends on a lawyer which i also do not have money for.

Sum it all up... I have no money to pay for my doctor bills... and I know how you feel. I'm not poor/sick/insane enough to get help. I guess I thought this country was something different than it is =]

I understand your plight. It is one that is shared by millions of people. Hopefully, a new administration and legislation will come to the aid of those who are not poor enough for government aid, but too poor to afford health insurance and other necessities of life. I presume you live in the United States. If so, and if you're old enough, be sure to vote in the next presidential election. I'm not advocating any political parties, but be sure you know your candidates and their agendas well before casting your ballot. Good luck!

just so u know ur not alone. my mother (46) has a bad heart and she has been waitressing just so she can pay her bills, she applied for a med card but she was told she would have to make less than $200 a month to qualify. $200? two hundred? 2 hundred?

You're not alone - I know how you feel. What gets me is the first thing they look at is your GROSS income . . . Heck if I brought home my gross income I wouldn't be seeking assistance. Very few take into consideration your net income and all the bills you need to pay from that net income.

Look at it this way, you have better chance to improve your life. The welfare people will give up and lose any desire that they have and will always be in a miserable existence.
