I have seen a hand held drill before and can't think of the name of it now. It isn't a power tool... it has a wooden sort of bulb on top that you hold and looks similar to a screw driver on the bottom but is very pointy. You spin it in between your hands to drill the hole. I want to find one to put holes in the sides of some CDs and can't remember the darn name! Thanks!

You are looking for a hand drill. Hard to find these days, but you may find one in a specialty store, on the internet (especially ebay!) or at an antique store. They are fun to use! My dad let me drill holes with them when I was a kid.
You are right not to use a power drill. You would not want to breath the dust from a CD.

Why does it have to be a hand drill? You should be able to do that with any drill. And a cheap battery or electric drill will be easier to find than a manual hand drill. Check around. You can find a cheap model Black and Decker with enough power to drill through a CD.

In order to drill through CD's, you will need very high rpm,s and very little force. The plastic is very dense and brittle. I would suggest usind a woodburner and melting a hole through them.

Without any Link; and having been on the planet a long time; it's called a BRACE & BIT.
It has a CHUCK and most often what was/is used is an AUGER type bit.

This may help. You could try ACE hardware if you have one near you they tend to some of the old fashioned stuff and have reasonable prices. Lowe's maybe

you could also use a coat hanger or similar wire heated up to melt holes in them. (less effort - and won't crack them.
