hiccups are normal. They are a sign that his digestive system is working because he is drinking the amniotic fluid. I don't think that it means that labor is coming any sooner. I have 5 weeks left myself and she gets hiccups all the time too. I think you can feel them more because the baby is getting bigger. Hiccups don't hurt the baby either. and usually they continue almost at the same rate after birth. One old wives tale says that everytime the baby gets them, they are growing. Just enjoy them for the last few weeks... good luck.

My son has the hiccups on average 4 times a day. I don't know if it has to do with getting closer to delivery day. I do know that it's normal (says my OB) and that he's practicing sucking and swallowing the fluid, which is what causes the hiccups. I have heard that having the hiccups frequently, means that he'll be extremely easy to nurse right after birth. He's also using his lungs during hiccups, so I try to think of them as a good thing!
Even though they can be extremely annoying at times!
Congrats!

My daughter had hiccups too. I used to wake up at night and feel them. She would get them anywhere from 8 to 12 times a day. The last 2 weeks of pregnancy the hiccups made my baby's head bump my bladder and I would have to go pee. Before that time I didn't have that sensation. Not sure if this will help but that is how it went for me. Good luck!! Be prepared for anything

You should speak to your doctor. There may be something you are eating that is causing the baby to have the hiccups. I know when I ate apples, my son would kick like crazy and then get hiccups. To this day, 12 years later...he hates apples! Ask your doctor. Hiccups is not a sign that delivery is eminent. The baby may also be taking in some amniotic fluid, causing the hiccups as well. All in all, I would still speak with the doctor, even if it is nothing.

Hiccups are safe and normal for your baby to have. You should not worry about it even if your babay hiccups a lot. The reason why they do is because they are swallowing amniotic fluid and hiccups result from this. It does not hurt them like it does to us. So just enjoy the entertainment. it does not mean your delivering early either.

First child I didn't have the fetal hiccups and she had colic. The next two both had hiccups and neither had colic. I think it is hit or miss. I think colic (not starting anything at all ;)) has more to do with what they are fed than anything else. What a mean tech to say stuff like that! Really, rather stupid to say stuff like that to a poor mommy :( Congratulations, though! Colic or not, such a blessing!

Hiccups just happen. Both my babies hiccuped several times a day before they were born (10 and 13 years ago.)
They were born fine and are still fine.

No need to be alarmed...my 2nd got hiccups like crazy on the inside. My first and third (so far, anyway), didn't have any hiccups.

I'm not sure if it happens closer to delivery or not. My children, especially my first born, had the hiccups all the time, it seems.
Feels funny, doesn't it?

Relax. Hiccups are just twitches of the diaphram muscle, which we use to help us breath. One theory out there is that hiccups in utero help to strengthen the baby's diaphram. There's nothing to be alarmed about, and nothing you can do to stop them. (They don't need to be stopped anyway.) However, they are *not* an indicator that your baby is coming soon.
