It seems to have reared its ugly head in recent years, and people seem more narrow minded these days than they used to be

crushed: the word "fashion" doesn't just refer to clothes.. anything can be subject to trends.. attitudes, lifestyle etc. I remember people being a lot more openly racist when I was young (1970s-early 80s), only for it to largely die down during the late 80s-late 90s). Now, it seems the tide is turning the other way and people are less caring of other people's feelings than they were before. Whether thats due to 9/11 or immigration or whatever it does seem to be happening. And I know what racism is, thank you, having been a victim of it myself.

All of my life I've been a racist infact i hate everyone but i love individuals. I don't need people telling me that i have to like another race or creed.Am i not allowed to make my own judgement or know my own mind anymore,i think not. I have friends from all walks of life and the colour of their skin is the last thing i see. The person inside is who i see but this country is being bombarded with people at such a rate that people who weren't racist are going that way. No thought was put into the outcome of allowing all these people to come to these shores or the effect it would have on it's people.

Fashionable, no. Inevitable, maybe. When you have large scale immigration, or part of a particular group blowing up commuters, then you'll get tensions. Immigration is fine, but it needs to be a slow and steady trickle to allow them to integrate. Too many newcomers makes the natives feel threatened. Unfortunately in the case of people from Muslim countries, we have a reason to be threatened, some are threatening us. We need to culturally 'digest' immigrants, too many at once and society chokes.

Hi there Kimona, I would not say that racism has become fashionable...In my opinion, racism is an issue that has come to the fore in because of the way society has evolved due to the large influx of immigrants.
For example:
In Britain we have a whole set of rules and customs about different parts of our lives. Due to the socially constructed Political Correctness, we attempt not to say or do anything that will cause offence in order to try and be a tolerant and accepting nation.
When we are abroad we try to have some respect for other people’s customs. So we expect those who come here as visitors or residents equally to respect our traditions and way of life. However, the majority of them do not. They flaunt, preach and force their belief systems and traditions whilst continuing to speak in their native language without making any attempts to learn ours. It is not expected that they abandon their customs etc, but it is with respect that we would want them to make an effort to honour our homeland by making an effort to integrate with us. Everyone but the British is ‘protected’ under a mask of Political Correctness. British people are insulted without consequence, and are restricted from practising their religion. Yet we are drowned in a diversity of cultures, religions and beliefs, and some can seem to be offensive and alien to us. British people’s experience of these in their own communities leads them to be suspicious of the un-known, antagonistic; and a few to be racist. Diversity does not work under these conditions.
We need a set of rules to be put into place that will enable Britain to hold on to its identity and traditions. ‘It is the acceptance of the rules that makes any society function. It holds people together and provides the glue for social cohesion. Anything goes leads to everything going. And what will go is our sense of belonging, our identity and our willingness to whole-heartedly welcome difference and diversity.’ This is why racism has become such a prominent issue.

Oh yes of course, its right up their with skinny jeans and flats.... Racism isn't a fashion trend. If you mean has racism become more dominate it depends on a couple of things.
a) Where you live
b) What you are comparing it too. (like a time period 1800's? 1950's?)
c) What you think racism is.
