I loved how all the decor and outfits matched the seasons. Its basically the King Lear story re-told. I did find the performances a little over the top and some of the situations to be unrealistic. I am a big fan of Chow Yun-Fat and think Gong Li is absolutely gorgeous. Overall, I think the film is definitely worth looking at as the visuals are simply breathtaking.

OMG I LOVED that movie....I like that actress anyway...she played in the Miami Vice movie...
Golden Flower had beautiful scenery and the story was interesting...I love period films...if you like Golden Flower you will LOVE Memoirs of a Geisha

It was visually beautiful but I found it depressing. You couldn't care about any of the characters -- it seemed like a hollow tragedy and was very claustrophobic feeling. I was kind of dissapointed by it.
Even though they were also tragic in the end, I thought both "House of Flying Daggers" and "Hero" were much more entertaining and more beautiful, with characters that you could sympathize with.
