That would be logical. The prevailing view on the purpose of taxes seems to now be to raise revenue through punishing "bad" behaviors to finance good goals. Gas -- to discourage driving. Alcohol -- to discourage drinking. Tobacco -- to discourage smoking. Income -- to discourage working....

As an old folk I look for discounts, not additional taxes. Dairy Queen gives me 5 percent.

I quit smoking about 36 years ago. The tax hike won't be relevant to me, but one of the things that has helped me stay quit is the rising cost of smoking. I still don't like the idea of more taxes on anything, but I do have to admit I was helped in a way by them.

I have very mixed feelings about sin taxes, but the best sins aren't taxed at all. I will leave you all to speculate on just what those are, but trust me--they are the BEST sins.

This must qualify as the most dumb question I've seen on YA in over a year!
It's not even remotely funny.
After 50 years I've given up smoking (6 months now) and want to cut down some 16 units of alcohol a day.
People like yourself are not helping.
Either be more sympathetic or "rot in hell!"
Have a nice day!

As much as I detest smoking, I detest the tax on tobacco even more. Everytime we give more money to the government they just abuse their power even more.
