I was going to ask the same question, and i am also in WI. For rear facing its 5lb and up till they are a year old and at least 20lbs. But i've heard they raised it to 23lbs and 1 yr before you can turn the carseat front facing.

If you are using an infant carrier, the weight and height limit should be labeled on the seat itself. Your baby CANNOT be forward facing until at least a year old and 20 pounds. That is a minimum. Keep you baby in a five point harness as long as you can, please. They make car seats that go up to 80 pounds in a five point harness. Anyway, Sunshine kids makes a car seat that can hold your baby from 5 pounds to 80 pounds in a five point harness. Please go to this website before making any decisions like this and see if they have a car seat class that you can take in your area. Good luck to you. Here is the website, again please watch the video. The other reason you need to keep your child in the rear facing position is, because there necks are not strong enough yet. They need to be rear facing until 1 year old no matter what. With being over 20 pounds the infant carrier is out. You need to purchase a convertible car seat and install it rear facing until the first birthday. The reason for rear facing has nothing to do with weight it has everything to do with baby's physical development....Their muscle(especially in the neck) are not strong enough to go through an accident if they are forward facing.

you can get a convertible seat. I had to. My son outgrew the carrier, and I had to get him a convertible. They go anywhere from 5-45 pounds. They have a 5 point harness, and later can be used front facing with a regular seat belt.

distinctive seats have distinctive rear dealing with limits. you prefer to maintain him rear dealing with as long as achieveable (a minimum of to his first birthday). Head to infants R Us or purpose or in spite of the fact that and verify out the seats, maximum of them have printed awesome on what the rear dealing with limits are!

Ok we had the same problem, My daughter is more than Chubby lol, Dr. says shes healthy but we do call her our little line backer. anyways, 20lbs is the weight requirement to move them to a front facing seat, along with a year old which ever is 1st, however, if you still have questions regarding this its best to make a 5 minute call to your dr. to find out of he/she thinks its ok for your little boy to move to a front facing one.
