For what you need, a $1000 laptop should be fine. Don't get a Mac or a Dell. HP makes good notebooks from my experiences. check out http://cnet.com and read the reviews and see what you might want. Go to a store and actually use the models you're thinking about; it might look great on paper but if its not comfortable to use you just wasted $. Most computers come with a 1 year manufacturer's warranty. If it is going to break, it is usually within the first couple months. Im not a fan of store warranties unless it's pretty cheap. it's up to you but I wouldn't get the store warranty.

nicely, there is not possibly a solid thank you to respond to that question. The Dell refurb has been examined and ought to have a guaranty. that could be the main secure thank you to bypass. On Ebay it incredibly is a crapshoot. you are able to desire to locate an notably solid deal or be caught with a lemon. No thank you to appreciate formerly hand. Plus you probable won't get any utility discs, which contain a duplicate of the OS, and the laptop may well be a stolen one in case you purchase it on Ebay.

Apple Mac Book is simple to use. Have your music on iTunes. Starts at 1,045. They come in Black and White. Also with the iLife '08 you can make movies and organize pictures. With the iWork '08, you have Keynote (Powerpoint), Numbers (Excel), and Pages(Word). Its awesome!

How important to you is the data that you are going to put on it?
Cheap laptops are fine until they get dropped and the hard drive craters, making it useless.
I would recommend getting one where the data is going to survive:
