Another one of those mysteries of life. I personally like to pur better than chase.

Accounts payable is the one that pays for the things that were purchased. The purchasing department only arranges to buy what is needed and may need to sign off before the vendor is paid (but they are not the group that writes checks for payment).

In a very small company one person may do all those jobs, one after the other. And when they are done at the end of the day they sweep up and bring out the trash.
