MOSCOW — At a major security conference this past weekend, Russian President Vladimir Putin blasted the U.S. for its militaristic approach to foreign policy, saying its actions were "nourishing an arms race."

I certainly hope we are smart enough and dedicated enough to avoid another cold war!

KC, I respect your answers. Russia is rebuilding their military, also flying dangerously close to US air space. This forces the US military to step up patrols in the area. Weapons reconstruction is now a primary issue in Russia. Russia wishes to re-establish its world power role. The Cold War was a stand off between the worlds 2 super powers. That's no longer the case. Seems Russia and China are siding. That is more dangerous than most people know. There will be no other Cold War in the future. It will be nuclear.

When the "Cold War" ended and reduction quantity of nuclear arms was begun, there was much talk bout eliminating nuclear weapons.
Call me a cynic, but I said. Now we can make the world safe for war!
Historically, it was thought that nuclear weapons were a deterrent to war.
It was assumed the ultimate destruction of everything including all human life would prevent the whole idea of war.
Now we have terrorists who WANT to destroy ALL human life. They have the nutty idea that destruction of humanity is what God (Allah) wants.
Going back to a terrible arms race and building of terrible weapons is wrong, but so is ignoring the dangers of terrorists.
During the Cold War, nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction were carefully controlled.
After the end of the Cold War, too little effort was invested in their control and now the world is more dangerous than ever.
Would a new Cold War put on pressure to contain the crazy terrorists?
One thing is certain. Tyranny in ALL its forms MUST be resisted for the sake of humanity. President Putin has all the signs of wanting to become another Dictator.

Moscow is among the biggest towns in the world. Is really a city that has grown fast in new decades, and, as a result, comprises high-rise suburbs bordering a comparatively small ancient heart with plenty of fascinating ancient architecture. The main host to Moscow is the Red Square that's been for generations, one's heart and soul of Russia. Here, you can go to the Century St. Basil's Cathedral, one of the very famous pieces of structure on earth and the constructivist chart of Lenin's Mausoleum. Red Square happens to be a wealthy invest designs of Russia's turbulent and fascinating past.

We are never ready for any new war or conflict, but the world scene can thrust us into one.

The big problem in my view is that the dictates of each war can lead to actions that plant the seeds for the next war.

We probably would never have gotten into the war on terrorism, it would never have started, had it not been for actions taken during the Cold War to generate hatreds for both east and west throughout the rest of the world.

Going back in history, there would never have been a Cold War, had it not been for regime change engineered in Russia by Germany, as an action to help them in WW I, which only took Russia out of WW I but did not save Germany then.

WW II might never have happened, were it not for seeds planted at the end of WW I.

WW I might never have happened, were it not for how world powers conducted themselves in mutual competition prior to then, such as deliberatly fomenting ethnic conflicts as a way of building and controlling their spheres of influence.

I shudder to contemplate what seeds we are planting today to fuel a future war, in the way that we are conducting the war on terrorism.

Nations are often disenchanted with the actions of leaders of other nations, leading to rhetoric that is often directed more at internal audiences and the world community than trying to influence our next Presidential election. How close is Putin to his next election?

Politicians often say strange things when an election is close, and they need to distance themselves from rivals. Perhaps a contender for Putin's job has been claiming that Putin is too friendly to Bush.

Moscow I completely agree wit u dat we should be smart enough to avoid another cold war.
US have the strongest military power in the world, and our military power have a great influence in the foreign policy..but goin into another cold war wouldn't be a smart decision to our economy.
We have been to so many wars and always come off victorious..so why not leave it that way and stil be the best.
ANOTHER COLD WAR....NOT A SMART IDEA AT ALL!

After the implosion of the USSR,the US had a golden opportunity to demonstrate that they could be responsible sole Super Power but instead their historical beligerence/arrogance and violence riddled national ethos and history drove them to the messes they are in today including the utter animosity of a vast majority of the peoples of this wotld including many of the US allies.

The US's never abating persuit of it's NATIONAL INTERESTS (READ PROFITS) irregardless of virtually all other considerations ,has polarized not only the US public itself but the entire world.

Many are beginning to long for the good old days of the cold war for it was a time where MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION insured a much more balanced world in which there was NO ABSOLUTE POWER and de facto NO ABSOLUTE CORRUPTION as we now have with the US.

Yes there was a constant low level fear but the off-set was the knowledge that neither the US nor the USSR was going to do anything precipitous in all probability .

This is NOT the case today where all literally tremble in fear of what next atrocity/crime agqainst humanity is the only Super Power going to wreck upon humanity .

Putin was ENTIRELY correct in his statement and given world wide polling on the hatred towards the US,the majority of the world is sure to echo Putin's sentiments.

Simply because he could ,the war monger Bush decided to wage an ILLEGAL war of choice all based upon a pack of stinking lies that has so far seen the slaughter OF OVER 400,000 innocent IRAQI CIVILIANS.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/10/AR2006101001442.html

Now the world trembles as the war mongering crimes against humanity super power called the US cotemplates another WAR aginst Iran and the slaughter of hundreds of thousand more INNOCENTS .

ALL FOR OIL OIL OIL OIL PROFITS PROFITS PROFITS !!

This is merely but another manifestation of the eternal truism of the Hegalian Dialectic .

We gave peace a chance in the 1930s. We gave it a chance on September 10, 2001. Sometimes it doesn't work. Sometimes you need a militaristic approach to foreign policy.
